About

In 1995, Aldona and her family relocated from Chicago to St. Petersburg, Florida where she works at her home studio. Aldona was born and raised in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

She grew up in an environment of music, art, books, and photography. Aldona has worked in various mediums alongside her artist husband, mostly with clay forms, nonetheless, she has always heartfeltly envisioned herself as a painter. Since her transition into painting, attaining a certain level of skill, conveying an emotion, and capturing the ability to be original has given her much fulfillment.

As a painter, I seek to create a choreography of mixed forms, sometimes bold and loud, other times subtle. My painting process frequently begins untamed with a pure outpouring of emotion. Color is applied over one another; each one chosen to enhance or contrast with the previous layer. I use acrylic paint in a broad and translucent manner to create scenes of vast light and color.

I like to start on a blank slate and the simplest things give me ideas. Inspiration could come from anywhere - a visual cue or concept. Additionally, I enjoy adopting techniques from various profound artists, applying expressive drips and blurring techniques, and exploring with light, vivid color, texture, and unique brushwork. Using paint in a broad and translucent manner allows me to create scenes of vast light and color.

I add and subtract many layers as a painting evolves, working with both opaque and translucent mediums to reveal the previous coatings underneath in either a blatant or subtle way. My medium of choice is acrylic paint as its quick drying time affords me the level of spontaneity that I am most comfortable with. In addition to applying paint with brushes, I use a variety of other tools such as palette knives, squeegees, cloth, etc. Besides acrylic, I work with graphite, pastels, and oil pigments.
